Audition Music for Concert Band 2017-18

Dear WHS Band Students,

The audition music for Concert Band 2017-18 is listed below.  Please click on the link for your instrument and print the excerpt from the piece Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger.  Percussion will have 3 EXCERPTS (mallets, timpani, and snare).  All percussionists aspiring to Concert Band must play all three.  Every student (percussion included) is required to play all twelve major scales from the Foundations of Superior Performance Book.  The 12 major scales will be timed.  As soon as a student plays their first note of their first scale a timer will start for 2:00.  Students should aspire to play all 12 scales (full range) in that 2:00.  Additionally, students will be asked to play the FULL RANGE chromatic scale from the scale page of Foundations of Superior Performance book. Here is a recording of the Dallas Wind Symphony, under the direction of Jerry Junkin, performing Molly on the Shore. LISTEN TO THE RECORDING!  Know how your part fits in the piece. Know the tempo.  Know what the style is.  Perform with awareness of ensemble! Auditions will take place IN YOUR BAND CLASS between Tuesday, May 23 and Friday, May 26.
