Varsity Band Recordings from 11/22 Rehearsal

Dear Varsity Band Students,

We have nine rehearsals until our December concert.  It is very important that you take the time to listen to the recordings posted before returning to school next week. Set THREE goals for personal improvement in the music for the December concert (i.e. I want to be able to play my high G in tune...I want to learn the tricky rhythm at letter D in "moon by night"...I want to be more consistent in tonguing accents) This will help us to have GREAT rehearsals driven by your goals to make your playing better!

  1. 1) I would say Moscow 1941, I think it has more of a story to it and since I had many relatives that were fighting for Russia during WWII.
    2) I would say Moon by Night. We had many individual parts and you cannot simply follow another instrument part cause chances are they might not have the same part as you do. Plus there was some soloists in that piece.
    3) Be better at counting in Moon by Night cause I think I came in a beat early for the triplets. So overall counting and try to break the habit of just listening when my part is coming up.
    4) I'm gonna give a shout out to Leah, I think she did really well on the solo for Moon by Night. I think it sounded really pretty!!! Nice job Leah!!!

  2. 1)If I were to do a CMP on one of the songs it would be Moscow 1941. I would be interested to learn about the history of this song. It is also the most historical piece we did in this concert. This piece has many ways of showing the history of WW2 and I feel like many others would like to lean as much as I would.
2)It was hard for me to transition from Flute to French Horn. The hardest piece for me to prepare for individually was Moon By Night. I knew how to play every note in that piece but it was often hard for me to get the tempo right.
3)I feel like I personally could put more effort into learning more about the French Horn and it’s note. Trough many songs I did not recognize how to play some notes and it was difficult for me to comprehend the fingerings
4)For my shout out I’m going to give to Ellie. Ellie gave me so much support while I was learning the French Horn and she played it phenomenally!
