On April 7th, 2018 you will have the opportunity to travel to Centennial Senior High School (4757 North Rd, Circle Pines, MN 55014) to perform in the Minnesota State High School League sponsored "Solo and Ensemble Contest". The hours of the contest are 8 AM to 3 PM, and there will be some flexibility for time sign-ups, but students who register to participate should generally anticipate needing that FULL TIME FRAME open on their calendar to perform at the contest. Students will select a piece and perform a solo or ensemble for a state-certified judge with expertise on their instrument who will provide constructive and positive feedback. Students are invited to sign up for up to THREE EVENTS MAXIMUM. I HIGHLY suggest that if you sign up for three events they are 1) a solo 2) a small ensemble (trio, duet, quartet, quintet) 3) a large ensemble like brass or woodwind choir. If you sign up for two events, make it one solo and one ensemble. Of course, if you just do one event, sign up for whatever you want. This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself to grow as a musician, play fun music, earn letter points, and reinforce all the great things you are learning in band! I can't wait to hear all the awesome events performed at the contest this year.
