It was truly a joy to make music with you all at our May Concert. All four bands reflected a great deal of maturity and skill development from 2018. Thank you for your attentive musicianship and energetic playing. Below are the recordings for you to reflect upon. I suggest downloading these Mp3s to keep in a portfolio of work you have done as a musician in high school. These recordings will be valuable to you down the road (if nothing else, simply to see how far you've come as a musician from Freshman Year). After listening to the recordings of your group and any other groups you would like to hear again, please answer the following questions in the comment section below. REMEMBER, to answer the questions, either log into your PERSONAL Google Account (NOT your apps.district833.org one...that account does not allow blog comments) or drop the menu down to "Name/URL" and enter your name (leave the URL space blank). Here are the questions:
1) Which piece did you FEEL the most connected to on stage during the concert? WHAT did you feel (happy, sad, excited, stressed, etc...)? Why did you feel so much when playing that piece?
2) If the composer of one of your pieces could have been in the audience for the concert on May 14, which one would you have wanted to be there? What do you think they would say if they were?
3) Please give a shout out to someone (or a group of people) that you feel did an OUTSTANDING job at the May 14 Concert. What did you appreciate about their musicianship/playing/poise/demeanor?
Here are the recordings!
During the concert I felt most connected to Play. I was a bit surprised by this because in all honesty play was never my favorite, but I felt proud of all of the effort we put into the piece. When we all came together at the end I felt a huge swell of pride for this band and all we’ve accomplished this year.
ReplyDeleteI would want Jack Stamp here! He’s hilarious! I think he would’ve said it wasn’t our cleanest run considering he’s heard our past performances, I think he might’ve said that we we’re quite together at some points, but we did a good job getting back on track. He also probably would’ve told the French horns to be louder :/
Shoutout to the saxophones! I looked over at them a couple times during the concert and they were always so focused and playing the music with so much feeling! You guys did great last night, good job saxes!
1) I felt proud while we were playing Lincolnshire posy because we have worked hard all year to be able to play all of the movements and being able to play them, and play them well, felt like a real accomplishment to me. I thought it was one of our best runs and I could feel that we were all engaged and putting forth our best energy and I am very proud of us for achieving our goal from the beginning of the year til now.
ReplyDelete2) I think that if dr. Stamp, composer of Gavorkna, had been there he would’ve said that we had great energy and articulation throughout his piece.
3) I’d like to give a shoutout to Sarah Hughes because she did amazing on her solos and I believe she is a very very talented musician and will be missed!
1. I felt the most emotion when playing Down a Country Lane because it a peice that i have played in many years past for graduation and it was a bitter sweet sendoff for me and the other seniors.
ReplyDelete2. I would want to have Percy Granger at the concert to listen to Linconshire posy because we worked very hard on it and I beleive that we avcurately captured the spirit of the piece.
3. I would like to give a shoutout to the trombones and low brass. They did a great job blending together and adjusting well to the foreground or background.
1) I think I most connected with the third or last movements of Posy. They just have a lot of feeling in them, and the last movement is just really fun and light, then loud and heavy at the end. I think the third movement really moves me because of the vocal recordings and the history behind it.
ReplyDelete2) I would've wanted Percy Grainger to sit in the audience. He probably would've thought we did his music justice.
3) I'm giving a shoutout to Simon for his solo during movement three. Really beautiful playing on the Flugel horn. As well as the clarinet section, who probably doesn't get enough credit. Really awesome job this concert.
1). I felt the most connected to Lincolnshire Posy. I felt excited at some parts and sad at other parts. I was able to feel the most for this piece because we have been playing it since September and we understood the meanings behind the movements.
ReplyDelete2). I wold have wanted Jack Stamp in the audience because I feel like we effectively executed what he wanted out of his piece
3). Shout out to Tim Rock for taking on the solos with energy

ReplyDelete2. Jack Stamp would probably ask us to play with better dynamics.
3. Shout out to all the soloists. They did so good!
I felt the most connected to Lincolnshire Posy in its entirety because we've spent an entire year with the piece learning every nook and cranny we can. My favorite movement of the piece that evoked the most emotion from me would be either Horkstow Grange with its dark beauty or Lord Melbourne with its heroic and power filled melodies.
ReplyDeleteI wish Percy could have been there for Posy, and I think he'd be impressed with all of it except for some of movement 4.
Shoutout to Mr. Shervey for surviving his first year! He's done a spectacular job and has been a great addition to the band. Also a shoutout to Rachel and Simon on their awards!
1. I felt most connected to Play! because it is a more happy song that you can dance along to. It reminds me of hanging out with my friends and sometimes talking over each other but always laughing and having a good time.
ReplyDelete2. I would have liked Percy Grainger to be there because it's rare to find a high school band that can play Posy and it sounded really good last night. I think he would have said thank you for playing it and taking time to really work on it and capture the meanings behind each movement.
3. Shout out to all the seniors who have worked really hard for the past 4 years and all the soloists who did awesome on their solos!

ReplyDelete2) I would have wanted Percy Grainger to be in the audience of our concert because we came a very long way in preparing that piece and I think he would have really enjoyed how we played it and said that he was proud that we attempted a piece that difficult.
3) I want to give a shout out to the seniors for their last concert. We kept it together pretty well through the concert and as a group we had an amazing last concert at Woodbury High School.
1. The piece I felt most connected to during the concert was Posy, specifically movement 3. Over this past year we have spent many many hours working on that piece, and for some reason while playing movement 3 I got this feeling of awe and accomplishment of all we have done.
ReplyDelete2. I would have liked to see Granger in the crowd, hopefully nodding with approval. I think he would congradulate us on being his newfound favorite high school band.
3. Shoutout to both Sarahs and Tim for nailing their solos and adding spice to the music!
1. Lincolnshire posy, because of all the work that we did on this piece this year.
ReplyDelete2. Percy Granger because we played 2 of his famous songs and it would be interesting to hear what he thinks.
3.Simon Miller, he performed his solos well and knew his parts very well.
1) I felt the most connected to Play! The song is so joyful and uplifting, and the hymn section can't help but bring a smile to your face.
ReplyDelete2) It would have been really cool if Jack Stamp had been in the audience, as he has worked with us multiple times and I think he would have enjoyed seeing us perform at our concert. I think that he would have liked the intensity of the entire ensemble.
3) Shoutout to the entire band for taking on the challenge of Lincolnshire Posy. All of our hard work throughout the year really paid off in our last concert together :)
1. I felt the most connected to "Scottish Ballad". It was a really slow and happy piece. I felt happy because it had a really joyful and solid tune to it.
ReplyDelete2. I wanted Goldman to be there. I think he would've really liked how we played.
3. Shoutout to Christian Agaba and Julia Toenjes for doing a great job on every piece in symphony band.
1.) I felt most connected with Play because it was very fun and it made me happy.
ReplyDelete2.) Percy Grainger because we spent all year on Post and I think it went really well.
3.) Shout out to Sarah Bennett for rocking her part in Post.
1. I felt most connected to Lincolnshire Posy because we know so much about the stories behind the piece that it's easy to connect. I felt happy, sad, and conflicted because each movement had a different feeling and style. I also felt proud because we put in so much work and effort into making it our best performance yet.
ReplyDelete2. I would want Dr. Stamp to have been there because I think he would have had good advice for us.
3. Shoutout to Rachel and Simon for their awards! They both worked very hard and deserved it!
1)I felt that I was most connected to Play, in a happy way. It was a really fun song, and driving throughout. It's a song which is difficult not to tap your foot to.
ReplyDelete2)I think that having Frederick Fennell in would have been a treat. He didn't exactly compose Lincolnshire Posy, but he was ingrained in the pieces to the point of composition. From what I've learned about him, he would have some motivating things to say, and insight into how we can always improve.
3)Shoutout to the Bassoon players of Alligator Alley. That sounded great, and fit the mood of the piece very well.
1. I felt most connected to Posy because of the hours of work we put into it to make it sound professional
ReplyDelete2. Jack Stamp should have been in the audience to hear Gavorkna because it ended up very good
3. Shoutout Jacques for anchoring the low brass and low reeds for that matter all year
