Nice work performing at the ERHS Young Band Festival on Friday. Performing at this festival gave us the opportunity to receive critical feedback from Mr. Miska, and we have the opportunity forthcoming to apply that feedback towards an awesome performance at our concert on 2/26/18! Please use the videos below, as well as the attached rubric, to evaluate our performance in a meaningful way and set goals to perform even more strongly at our home concert.
Sincerely,
Mr. Katzenmeyer
1) I believe we performed strongest on I Am because we had nice articulation and balance.
ReplyDelete2) As an ensemble, we need to work on blending.
3) I personally can work on not being as load along with the rest of the percussion.
1. I think that I Am was our best piece. I think our Blend and Balance was phenomenal and I think that that was our best performance of the piece so far. Even if Percussion and low brass were too loud at some parts. I also liked it articulation
ReplyDelete2. Our ensamble needs to work together as sections to make sure that our pieces flow together naturally. Additionally the our ensamble could work on our tone quality and rest counting.
3. I personally need to improve and practice the most in into the clouds
1). I think the piece we gave the strongest performance was Ascend because I thought that we have a good understanding of the rhythm and tempo.
ReplyDelete2). I think as an ensemble we need to work on I am at the end with our vertical alinement and entrances.
3). Personally I need to work on the articulation in Into the clouds in the beginning portion and end working on getting a more clean sound.
1) Into the Clouds: we had the most energy and tone in this piece. Articulation snatches throughout the ensemble and we aligned with one another more than any other piece.
ReplyDelete2) I am definitely needs the most work, particularly in mm 62 with the constant eight notes and lining up articulation and moving our fingers at the same time as our keys. Dynamic contrast needs to be improved in all pieces.
3) I need to work on clear articulation the beginning of I Am, and having enough air support for sustained quiet notes in the beginning of I Am and the end of it.
1) I think Ascend was our best because we made the least amount of mistakes and our tone was the best in this song.
ReplyDelete2) I think we need to work on the entrances in I Am because they did not seem confident.
3) I can work on my runs in I Am.
1) Ascend because we had great dynamics and good articulation
ReplyDelete2) I Am during the singing secions because we need to be louder
3) Line up with the other trumpets
1.) I think that we put our best effort into Into the clouds because we had the most confidence and played with a lot of energy.
ReplyDelete2.) We need to work on blend as an ensemble. Often parts that should be noticeable are obscured by louder parts, or they aren’t played as loud as they should.
3.) I believe I could work on my tuning and playing out more.
1. Into the Clouds was our best performance because it had good alignment and goid energy.
ReplyDelete2. Vertical alignment in I Am at m. 117 and getting bigger into 125.
3. I need to work on aligning with the clarinets better.
I think our strongest performance was Into The Clouds because the rhythms were easy.
ReplyDeleteI think the ensemble needs to work on the ending of each song, ending together. Also the ending of I Am with the entrances.
I need to work on my runs.
1. I think we gave the strongest performance on Ascend, because our dynamic contrast was strong, and the band stayed together with entrances and releases.
ReplyDelete2. I think symphony band needs to focus heavily on I Am. Individual entrances were weak from 55-81, and vertical alignment was an issue at 125. The senza misura also needs more balance because some instrument’s parts are overshadowed by percussion.
3. I plan to work on making my solo during I Am louder but still keeping intonation. I could also work on keeping the power alive during Into The Clouds and not dying out quickly during the melody sections.
1. Ascend because our articulation was pretty good and we were on time.
ReplyDelete2. I Am, solos need to play out more. We also need to watch and come in on time.
3. Watch and count the rests and focus on articulation.
1) Into the clouds- we stayed pretty aligned for the most part and sounded confident
ReplyDelete2) Ascend- overall balance and blend
3 I Am- my solo in the beginning
1) I think we gave the strongest overall performance on Into the Clouds, because we could focus on the style and feel of the piece, not the notes and rhythms.
ReplyDelete2) As an Ensemble we need to pay attention to dynamic markings and make those contrasts all around. Also, we need to count and watch for cues on when to come in, because it seems like some entrances were missed. Overall intonation in I am needs to improve in the trombones during the piano sections, we need to be less timid and play softly but strongly.
3) I can work on my tuning on the slow parts of I am and making sure I keep to the rhythm and look at the markings. I also need to pay attention to other sections more in all pieces.
1) We had the strongest performance with Ascend because we played with the most confidence.
ReplyDelete2) As an ensemble we could work the most on vertical alignment in I Am.
3) Personally, could work on measure 96 in I Am.
1. I think our strongest piece was Ascend because our vertical alignment was best during that song.
ReplyDelete2. Vertical alignment in I Am.
3. Tuning the super high notes in Ascend.
1) I believe that into the clouds was our best piece because there was better blend between percussion and the rest of the band and for the most part we lined up with Mr. Shervey
ReplyDelete2) we need to work on the volume from the percussion and keeping in time with the conductor.
3) I can add to the sound of the low brass to help make sure that we are herd when we are supposed to with good sound.
1. I was very excited to perform I Am. I believe that was our best performance to date! We as a band played very expressively during band practice.
ReplyDelete2. I Am was I think our strongest piece that we played. The soloists did a very great job with their parts. Even so I think our band needed to work more on this piece and our other ones.
3. Band community performed together.
4. Shoutout to All of the soloists from IAm.
1. I Am because I thought that it was the most diverse piece that had a lot of unexpected twists.
ReplyDelete2. I thought Ascend was played the most accurately and expressively. It was not the same piece that I picked for #1. I think we were able to have more expression because we could play the notes and rhythms more accurately, so the two aspects played off of each other.
3. Woodbury band works to achieve expression and alignment.
4. Alex VB in the beginning of Into the Clouds sounded great! She had good tone and style.
The piece I was most excited to play was I am. I was excited to play this because our band practiced hard to make this song sound good
ReplyDelete.
I feel like we played Ascend the most accurately.
If I was a newspaper reporter I would make the title for last nights concert I would name it WHS 10th grade band concert
I would like to give a shoutout to everyone who played a solo they did a good job
1) I was most excited to perform I Am because it was the hardest and the most expressive.
ReplyDelete2) I think into the clouds was performed the most precisely because our tempo, our volume and our articulation was good.
3)performed at Woodbury theater. Good performance together.
4) I would give shout-out to Quin at the baritone saxaphone
4) shout out to Alexa Westphal for playing accurate and playing out, you sounded awesome!!
ReplyDeleteShout out to Ellen on her solo, it was beautiful.
1. The piece I was most excited to perform was a walk in the morning sun because it had a happy up beat tempo.2. I think adagio for winds was played the best.3.My head line post would be BAND BLOWES AWAY AUDIENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE ON THE CENTURY.4. I would give a shout out to Enrique for learning his tambourine part.
ReplyDelete1. The piece i was most excited to perform was x-factor because of the up beat tempo and vibe.
ReplyDelete2. The piece that showed the most accuracy and expressiveness was x-factor maybe it was because the whole band liked it more so we plaed it better i am not sure, but it was a great performance.
3. WOW...rollercoster of tempo changes for varsity band but they pulled it together in the end.
4. I want to give a shoutout to concert band on playing the piece xerxes. When i was just in that room i felt amazed by how everything fit together and the amazing sound effects that played into the piece.
1. I believe we performed the strongest on X Factor, because all of the parts came together really well for the most part.
ReplyDelete2. We need to work on keeping a steady pulse and not rushing as well as tuning.
3. I can personally improve on keeping the pulse completely steady and on my dynamic range.
