District 833 8th/9th Grade Solo Festival Time Sign-Up and Volunteering

Dear WHS Varsity Band Student and Family,

Happy Snow Day!  I hope you are safely inside and finding excellent ways to use the extra time (like practicing your solo!).  As you already know, our first-ever District 833 8th and 9th Grade Solo and Ensemble Festival will be taking place at East Ridge High School on Saturday, March 17th, 2018 from 8 AM-12:30 PM.  I only heard from 4 9th grade families that their students would be UNABLE to attend the festival. I have created a spreadsheet, linked below, where students/families can select their solo performance time for the day.  Please click the link to the google document below to sign up for a time.  A couple of ground rules:

  1. Please do not change names that have already been entered. This is first come, first served.  If there is an issue (i.e. none of the times remaining work for you) please contact me via email.  I will help resolve the issue.  Please do not erase names!
  2. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to attend the master class for their instrument (also listed on the spreadsheet as ALL WHATEVER-THEIR-INSTRUMENT-IS).  Master Classes all occur in the Black Box Theater behind the loft stage.  A master class is an opportunity for our professional musicians to coach all students who performed at the festival and impart best-practices for their instrument.  This is where the GREATEST learning will occur for this event.  Please plan on having your student attend!
  3. Students must be present at the awards ceremony at noon to receive their scores.  They will otherwise get feedback in the room verbally from their judge.  East Ridge’s Jazz I will perform at the awards ceremony, so it should be a fun show!

Additionally, we need parent volunteers for this festival.  If you are available as a parent from 7:30 AM-1 PM on Saturday, March 17th and would like to volunteer, please click HERE to sign-up for adult volunteering!

Have a great day, and I hope to see you all soon when the weather clears!

Sincerely,

Mr. Katzenmeyer
