Canterbury Chorale Blog Assignment 2/8

Hey Varsity Band!  Mr. Golde is going to present a short lesson today on the history of the Canterbury Cathedral, which is the place that the piece Canterbury Chorale is inspired by.  Today your goal is to think like the composer, Jan Van Der Roost, and find why this historically significant cathedral is a great place to base a piece of music off of.  Please use the research you did today in class and also the video, posted below, to complete the "ticket out the door" assignment on your personal device in class today.

"Ticket Out the Door" Assignment

What was the most interesting fact you learned today that will help you to give a more informed performance of Canterbury Chorale by Jan Van Der Roost. Your answer should include a topic sentence, two supporting sentences, and one concluding sentence.  Please post your answer in the comment section below. Each response will be worth 4 personal achievement points in class (1 for your topic sentence, 1 for each supporting sentence up to two, and 1 for your closing sentence).

EXAMPLE:
The composition,  originally composed for brass ensemble, has been arranged to include woodwinds to resemble an organ. Since brass instrument all produce sound in the same manner; it would be easy to see how this would resemble a choir. This same kind of principle can be implied when it comes to the variety of stop combination of an organ to produce many different sound combinations. In conclusion the multitude of instrumentation can be seen as an homage to the Great Organ of the Canterbury Cathedral.
