Composer and music theory/composition professor at UW-Stevens Point Charles Rochester Young made a special trip from Central Wisconsin to work with Woodbury High School Band students on two of his compositions. The Concert Band recently performed "Tempered Steel" by Dr. Young at the Suburban East Conference Music Festival at Park High School, and the Symphony Band is rehearsing "Galop". Both pieces will be performed at WHS's February 22 concert at 7:30 PM in the school auditorium.
Dr. Young rehearsed each group for their full 53 minute rehearsal. He took students beyond playing just the notes and rhythms and took them to the next level by sharing insight into the emotional meaning behind the composition of the pieces. Students rehearsed with a heightened sense of artistry knowing the composer's true intent in writing the music.
