Varsity Band "Professional Sound Models" Project

SOUND MODELS PROJECT



PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS FOR PART 1 and 2 of the "PROFESSIONAL MODELS PROJECT":

1) What piece AND artist (name the composer and title of the piece AND who is playing it) do you plan to share with the class?

    5) Flight of the bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky performed by Rafael Mendez. I was very impressed by the speed of his playing, and how it sounded very articulate and not blurred

    4) What I really love about this artist's sound is how clear and rich it sounds. The oboe naturally sounds really nasally or like a pair of bagpipes so what really sets a good player apart is how clear the sound is, especially when you tongue the notes.

    2) I’d say this is a contemporary piece.

    5) I was most impressed with Maggie’s piece Fantasy performed by Elisabeth Wentland composed by Kuhlau.

    4. I love the slow and steady pace of this song. It’s very “fatale” and her voice blends beautifully with the slow, melodic, yet piercing tone of the trumpet. It sounds good to me because it’s very heart-wrenching and tells the story of a sad little girl who counts her fingers and cries.
    5. La Vie en Rose, by Louis Armstrong. The original version was sung in French by french composer and singer, Èdith Paif as a traditional pop piece. Louis preforms it on his trumpet.

  16. 1) The piece I picked is fantasy in D major for solo flute, op. 38 nr. 1. The composer of the piece is Friedrich Kuhlau. The person playing the piece is Elisabeth Wentland.

    2) I would call it contemporary.

    4) I like her tone and how it stays consistent when she changes registers. In addition you could also hear her good articulations.

    5) The piece was called Allegro from sonata in G minor and it was composed by Bach. The flute player is Maria Piccinini and the style is baroque.

    5. I enjoyed listening to Tylers piece. It was of a street performer so we didn't know who it was or if they were playing a certain song, but I thought is sounded cool.

    4. It’s vibey and I haven’t seen lot of Asian/ Pacific Islander women being this successful in a percussion section.The groove shifts from fast to slow and it’s suspenseful, I like it when music can make me feel emotions.

  22. 1) I plan to share Michele Bowen playing Bassoon Concerto in F Major, Op.75, composed by Carl Maria von Weber.
    2) Genre is classical.

    4) I chose this artist because I love how playful and light her playing sounds, and she was easily able to transition from any low or high notes. She has a really fast tongue and hands, and she also has a rich, deep, and in-tune sound.

    2. Since he was a jazz artist, I would say that it is a jazz piece.

    4. I like that normally I hear bassoons in a classical setting, but its cool to see them playing jazz. I like how each of the four bassoonists has their own unique sound. Their high notes have very wonderful tone.

    5)Adrianna shared a 14-year-old boy playing a horn. I think it's super impressive that a 14-year-old boy can play super good on the horn!!! The boy's name is Radek Baboràk and he is playing Weber concerto for horn.
